Teen Spirit (Conium)

Teen Spirit (Conium) is an Audio-Video player and organizer with a very user friendly interface. It can retrieve info from internet such as lyrics, album reviews, album covers, artist biographies, artist pictures (more to come). Teen Spirit (Conium) keeps history of the files you play, lets you review statistics and generates a personal hitlist based on which songs you listen to most. It features an ID3v2 tagger (and mass tagger) and an easy to use renamer (and mass renamer) with preview. It helps you discover tracks in your vast music collection with features like auto-continue or by playing the music quiz. As a music organizer it lets you catalog Hard Disks, Network drives, Data CDs/DVDs, AudioCD (with auto CDDB - FreeDB support), USB memory sticks, mp3 players (including iPod) in a friendly way. Teen Spirit (Conium) has been developed in C++ for speed and efficiency.

Scanning Music Files
Selecting folders and Start Scanning

Open the 'Scan' tab in the program window. Choose the disks and folders containing music files you want to examine by left clicking in the check-boxes.

Click the 'Start scan' button and wait for the scan to run through. The scanning time depends on the number of selected files, program settings, and performance of your computer.

MCI report

Scan Report

You can observe the scanning progress in the Summary window. This window displays general information on selected files. The Audio Files Quality column shows the quality of the scanned files. It is defined by the audio encoder parameters and by the quality of the primary audio signal.
Browsing the Results of Scanning

When the scan is finished you can browse its results by clicking the 'Show' button or the 'Browse' tab.
Finding Duplicates of Sound Records

When the scan is finished you can run the procedure of duplicates search over the scanned files. In order to do this, click the 'Check duplicates' button and wait for the search completion. The number of the duplicate groups found will be displayed in the bottom-left corner of the Summary window.
Browsing and Editing Duplicates

Click the ‘Show’ button or the ‘Duplicates’ tab to browse results of a duplicates search. All found music duplicates are grouped together and presented as a list. You can compare duplicates in a given group, play back, edit tags, delete or move files by right clicking on the file record in the list.
Browsing Music Files

Open the ‘Browse’ tab. You can see the list of examined files. The list can be sorted by any column. You can browse file information and edit file’s tags by right clicking on the file record. You can also play back, delete or move any file from the list.
Filtering Results

If the list of files is very large, it's convenient to use the Filter tool. The Filter allows to display a subset of the full list selecting files by a rule. The tool is displayed in the bottom-left corner of the window. The file list can be sorted by any one of the following fields:

* filename (including a full path name)
* tag ‘title’
* tag ‘artist’
* tag ‘album’
* tag ‘genre’
* tag ‘year’
* tag ‘composer’
* codec
* bitrate
* quality


Shortcut menu

Right-click any row in your list of search results and the shortcut menu will appear. The menu options are the following:

* Play
* Edit tags
* Delete
* Delete all except selected
* Copy tags
* Paste tags
* Move to folder
* Open containing folder

Music Playback

The option ‘Play’ allows you to listen to the music through the system's default media player.
Editing File Information

Pick ‘Edit tags’ in the shortcut menu. The following file information can be edited in pop-up window:

* tag ‘title’
* tag ‘artist’
* tag ‘album’
* tag ‘genre’
* tag ‘year’
* tag ‘composer’(not available for OGG files)
* tag ‘track’

The shortcut menu options ‘Copy tags’ and ‘Paste tags’ allow to fill all tags in duplicates all at once.

Deleting or Moving Files

These menu options permit to physically delete or move music files. Information on such files will be automatically updated in the MCI database.
Open containing folder

That option opens Windows Explorer and displays the contents of the folder with the file you selected.
Settings

When the option ‘Scan entire audiofile’ is selected MCI scans audio files from the beginning to the end. Otherwise the program will scan only the first 45 seconds of the record. It will be useful for finding duplicates in audio files with classical music (or DJ’s mixes) which contain several parts in one file. Note: in this case the scanning time will increase.

The ‘Scan files’ options permit to select formats of audio files to be scanned.

On their third full-length release, Lost and Safe, the Books show that they are back stronger than ever and from the beginning are subtly pushing new forms. Still present in the Books' song structures are string work and found sounds, but the inclusion of vocals from the bandmembers themselves gives Lost and Safe a depth that was only hinted at on Thought for Food and Lemon of Pink. The use of more vocals is never overbearing and works well with the other elements of speech, at times completing sentences or thoughts of particular samples -- the lyrics are printed with the sample text included as well. Rhythms and textures of strings and other various instruments seem to complement the found sounds and samples to a wonderfully haunting effect, as on "It Never Changes to Stop," "An Animated Description of Mr. Maps," and "Venice." The Books manipulate sound elements that are found or created by their string playing, which can be jarring at times, as on "Be Good to Them Always." Lost and Safe is subtle and dramatic throughout, as the Books use all of their musical resources to create an album that sounds like the members of a modern Gastr del Sol might have discovered computers and sounds deep in the woods or in the cracks of high-tech buildings, and incorporated these elements in their music-making. From the songwriting to the production to the performance, the whole package that the Books present with Lost and Safe works wonderfully and makes for a very rewarding listen. - David Serra

A few deep breaths after finishing their acclaimed record "The Lemon of Pink", The Books set out to make their third album, "Lost and Safe". Still based in North Adams, MA, The Books moved their studio across town from a freezing cold pantry in a ramshackle tenement into a moderately sized bedroom in the attic of a historic victorian, heat included. A big step up, indeed. They busied themselves buying up unmarked audio tapes at Salvation Armies across the east coast, expanding their notorious library of found sounds and samples to truly absurd proportions. Along with The Books' mainstay cello, guitar, mandolin and banjo, which all make appearances in "Lost and Safe", they also invested in a few new instruments to play with, most notably: a set of tuned plastic drain pipes, a cheap metal filing cabinet with subwoofers installed in it, and a vintage Hohner clavinet, which they salvaged from a Dutch basement and restored to funkiness. Also, Nick taught himself how to sing, more or less, and Paul forged ahead in building an impressive library of found video and fonts that will be a feature of their first live tour in May, 2005.

A synaesthetic quality pervades "Lost and Safe" as it explores new territory within the collage based production style set forth by its two predecessors. It is a song based album, conceived of as a whole, that weaves found voices and original lyrics together with a constantly shifting instrumentation that defies classification. Camfrog Video Chat allows you to join real streaming video chat rooms where you can hear, see, and chat with many people at a time. Instant message a user to get to know them before you Webcam chat, and add them to your contact list. This videoconferencing software also works behind most firewalls and routers. Camfrog Video Chat allows multi-user videoconferencing where you can join a room with up to 1000 users and just click a user name to begin seeing someone. Press the 'talk' button to talk to the entire room with audio. The video chat rooms are hosted by broadband users who are running the Camfrog Video Chat Room Server software so any user can set up their own multi-user videoconference for other users to join. No Webcam is required to see people, but some rooms might not allow users without Webcams. Camfrog Video Chat is optimized for broadband users so it has fast video.
